The easiest way around is of course to just create a user on the server with the same username/password as the one you're logging on to your desktop with.

It sounds like you ran Fdisk in dos which is no biggie. Either will work.
So what CD are you booting from?
Alrighty, once you get through the installation portion you need to run fdisk to make sure everythings tagged right.
Type fdisk
if it says you must specify a device try /dev/hda it's usually your first hard disk.
Then do a 'p' (without quotes)
and it should list your drives.

Yeah, just setup a vpn connection on each side, one to listen one to send. If you both have XP then it should be a piece of cake, you just need to make a user on the listening machine. If only have XP you should listen as setting up a VPN on other OS's takes a little bit more knowledge.
