btw: my OS is windows 2000 professional

Sometimes when I play Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament, my computer just freeze... If I run Winamp in the background, it continues to play unaffected by the "freeze". So my mouse, the screen, and the sfx in the game stops, but wamp keeps playing. This is REALLY annoying! Any help appreciated...
