    multi boot windows xp

I'll answer for me. I do video editing, and a barebones Xp installation (hardware drivers and video software and that's it) works a lot better. I get far fewer crashes with a barebones installation dedicated to video editing.

Xp reactivation--How many of you have used up your five lives?

Does it make you feel good to acuse me of acting like an ass when you're the one who more closely fits the bill.

Xp reactivation--How many of you have used up your five lives?

I don't dispute you there. With my old system I did tons of stuff before it triggered a reactivation. But this is the first thing I have done--and it was merely a driver. The weird thing is it's a P4 cpu with an Intel board. About as plain as they come. I built this for stability. Weird.

    multi boot windows xp

An easy way I found to do it is buy another HD (they're dirt cheap, now). Unplug your existing HD. Install Xp on the new HD (let Windows do the formatting, partitioning). Plug in the old HD, and use the bios to switch between OS's. This way, you don't have the boot, ini to deal with, and if...

Xp reactivation--How many of you have used up your five lives?

    1) Obviously, you haven't talked to Norma from India lately....I don't think she was hassling me, but I don't know. We weren't exactly speaking the same language. 2) Now you have. I built this system two months ago. I've changed nothing inside (other than really cool cold cathode lighting)...

Xp reactivation--How many of you have used up your five lives?

I bought Xp OEM when it was first released. I've upgraded a couple of times, reinstalled a couple of other times, and I add new hardware often. Now, I have used up my five activations, and reactivating over the phone is a hassle. Today, I upgraded my video driver. I have not changed any...

    NTLDR is missing...

Check your boot order in your bios. You never know, changing out the PS may have messed up your bios. Also, recheck those master/slave settings. I've had systerms that wouldn't boot because I screwed those up.

"Blue screen of Death" on brand-new notebook

After trying the exellent suggestion by Paperlantern, if the puter still doesn't work. Pack it up and send the POS back. Politely ask for one that works. Don't go through the hassle of trying to install/reinstall, if it doesn't work after that it will just give them something to blame you for.

    How to display mpeg2 thumbnails?

Thanks for the try, Souka, but I wish it were that simple. Xp does not have native support for Mpeg2 coding/decoding. I have about four Mpeg2 codecs installed with the most up-to-date one from WinDVD 6 set as default. This codec passes all Windows tests with the Windows Xp Decoder Checkup...

    How to display mpeg2 thumbnails?

Before I upgraded my computer, I could view mpeg2 thumbnails. I have a lot of mpeg2 files, and this was very handy. Now, since I upgraded and reinstalled all the same software, I can no longer view mpeg2 thumbnails. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks System: Xp Pro sp2 3.0 P4...

To follow up. I fixed it. I reinstalled an image I made and for whatever reason it cured the problem. Got to love hard drive imaging software.

    dvd corrupt firmware?

Thanks for replying, Uncle Bob. Yes, I rebooted and windows detected the Pioneer A05 drive and said, "your hardware is installed and ready to use." However, I still had the same error (41). I have no raid configuration, and connect the DVD through IDE. I tried to reflash the firmware...

    dvd corrupt firmware?

Recently, I updated the firmware of my A05 Pioneer so it would rip at full speed. It seemed to go okay. I ripped a couple of DVD's with no problems. However, once I rebooted Windows is not assigning a drive number to the drive. I get an error "Windows successfully loaded the device driver...

Problems in WinXP on Abit KT7 board

I had exactly the same problem. Bios flash (to 64) cured it.

    Uh oh... grinding/whirring mobo fan

I just went through this with my KT7a. All you have to do is take off the northbridge fan, peel off the sticker covering the bearing (mine was on the back side of the fan), and give it a little squirt of oil. This totally took care of the noise for me. I guess this is a common problem with...
