Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

If you would have told me to expect numbers like that, I would have told you that you were being unrealistic

    Lost Drive Capacity after Imaging

I remember using Macrium, but I also remember that I couldn't get the new drive to boot for a while. I was in a hurry and it was late, so I probably ran some random things from the internet that I didn't fully understand. I didn't know that it was possible to reset the max LBA value.

    Lost Drive Capacity after Imaging

Thanks for helping me work through this. I remember having some trouble getting the partitions boot-able with the dell recovery partition after the original imaging. I started clicking switches until things worked. I must have reset the max LBA on the new drive. I used this tool and it fixed...

    Lost Drive Capacity after Imaging

Thanks Larry. I was just coming to the same conclusion, but you got there first. Looks like intel has a windows tool here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23931/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Tool I'll play with that later today. This looks like it provides some academic back...

    Lost Drive Capacity after Imaging

About 18 months ago, I imaged a 60GB Fujitsu hard drive onto a 90GB Avant SSD ( firmware 3.6.1) using Macrium free. I confirmed that the drive was a 90GB drive before imaging. I was going to expand the partition after imaging, but after the imaging was complete, disk manager, diskpart, the...

    AMD 6900 reviews thread (UPDATED)

The word is that we should wait for reviews that use the 10.12 drivers, since they are supposed to make a significant performance difference with the 69xx series.

Maybe it's more like rednecks debating Ford vs. Chevy.

    Nvidia GT 320

I'd say you should a GT320 to perform about 10% slower than a 8800GS or HD4650 at up to 1280x900 resolution. Not sure what to expect after that, but it is probably a bit under powered to handle that anyway.

NDA for Cayman is lifted 22nd?!

Here are the things that I saw in the slides that stood out: Dual 8th Gen tessellation units * off chip buffering * up to 3x tessellation of the 5870 Dual rasterizers * Fed from the same dispatcher * Each works with one tessellation unit 256 Bit memory * clocked faster than 1.25Ghz (5Ghz)...

    Antilles 6990 slide

A read that as: 4GB Ram at 512bit @ 1.2 Ghz 150 Watts per GPU and they probably had to slow the memory down to get there 1920 Stream Processors per GPU 55% more raw compute power than the 5970 We already have plenty of "slide" threads like this. Super Moderator BFG10K.

    Rendition Vérité V1000

I have a Verite 2200 card that I picked out of the leftovers of a collapsed dot com company in 2000. The card still works. I pull it out when I need a PCI card to test failing mother boards. Ironically, I used to run voodoo lights on it back in the day.

AMD's Cayman - HD 6900 series info delayed till week of Dec 13th

Isn't that article kind of old? It's like 20 weeks old. Oh wait. Never mind. Parts that were ordered on 7-2 would be arriving on 11-19 if the 20 week lead time is right. But I though DrMosfet's had a shorter lead time for some reason.

AMD's Cayman - HD 6900 series info delayed till week of Dec 13th

The timing & length of the delay rumors is what interests me. The delay rumors came out right after the 580 came out. That makes me think that either 1) AMD is validating the part for new frequencies or some incompatibility and needs an extra couple weeks for validation or 2) the delay rumors...

GTX460 SE slide: trading speed for memory bandwidth

I think this puts it up to 4 different GTX460's if you count that unofficial super-clocked FTB edition Nvidia gave out to reviewers. ( FTB = For the benchmark!) It seems like Nvidia's new marketing strategy is to call all of their products the same version. Maybe this is their attempt to...
