    OS placement on file servers

Hi, A basic question regarding "best practice" when it comes to placement of the OS on a file server. I've put together a RAID 10 storage array on 4x WD Black 1TB hard drives. This will be for an office environment with 5 PC's accessing the files. My original plan was to create a 50-100gb...

    Assistance with selecting RAID card/setup

Budget is enough to get 6 or 8 SATA II or SATA III 7200 RPM hard drives. Pricing seems fairly close to one another on the HDD side; havent researched MB's yet. I dont need more than 2 TB at the moment. So... hypothetical situation... if I got a motherboard with onboard RAID and the...

    Am I overheating?

This question is for outdated equipment for anandtech standards, but I figure I ask anyways :) I have a barebone computer I built for simple home use, with a AMD XP1800+ CPU. Lately it has been shutting down randomly, and I think it's because of overheating issues. I tried doing a search but...

    Webpages (hosts) and speed

Hello, I'm having the toughest time trying to find a good and reliable webserver to host some sites. So far, I've switched around 4-5 webhosts from $8/mo to $80/mo, none seems to work very well, probably because of the fierce compeittion. I used yahoo, it was good but the database connection...

Wow, I got Linksys to ship me a new unit. It's so funny how I pass by linksys almost every single day =\ I'll keep the new linksys for awhile and see what happens. (Woohoo, i will have 2 refurbished linksys products soon haha)

    Switches: Netgear or DLINK?

It's for a home office and the switch is connected to 3 computers that are always on. I don't have any power surges I know of, and it's surge protected... Unit is next to a window away from direct sunlight, and temps do not rise above 75 or so.. Socal, so not too bad on the humidity...

    Switches: Netgear or DLINK?

Yep... I borrowed a switch from my roommate and the problem was isolated to the Linksys switch. Took about 2 hrs for me to realize that something on the network is slower than normal, and another hour or so to isolate to the switch. I'm actually surprised you prefer linksys hehe... The first 2...
