Serious Help needed here! ASUS A7266-E and other hardware

Called the vendor and they are going to exchange the motherboard. So I will have a new one. I took back the case to Best Buy, told them defective PS. Now I only need AMD to give me a new RMA number even though they just did last week. I am starting to feel better as I am getting a new...

Serious Help needed here! ASUS A7266-E and other hardware

There is no change needed for the Alpha HS unit. Fits right in perfect without needed a dremel. There is an imprint where there would be a capacitor located. That I could see how you would have to cut it out. I didn't need to do that.

Serious Help needed here! ASUS A7266-E and other hardware

<< LOL only way I can see a problem withyour installation is if you applied AS2 over the entire chip and not just the core. It's conductive... that would fry your CPU. Other than that it either sounds like a power supply issue (is it AMD approved?). 300W is pretty low for an AMD XP. >> I...

Serious Help needed here! ASUS A7266-E and other hardware

The mobo is (sorry bad subject ;) ) ASUS A7V266-E. Well, the only way I determined that CPU was dead was that when I put the new one in. It worked! It was the only thing that got changed between CPU #2 and CPU #3. Same symptoms in both cases. The only thing that was different was the BIOS...

Serious Help needed here! ASUS A7266-E and other hardware

To make the long story short. I bought ASUS A7266-E, Althon XP 1800+ retail box, ATI AIW 8500DV and one 512MB PC2100 memory stick at a computer show. I bought the Antec SX830 case with the 300W PS included from Best Buy. First day, Mobo and CPU fried under an hour. Exchanged the mobo from a...

ASUS A7V266-E Althon XP 1800+ BIOS Setting

Thanks Migroo. No kiddin' How is a dummy like me suppose to know? It needs to be documented better. I will try it when I get the replacements. I shipped two CPUs today with RMA#. I will change the jumper when I get it back. What about the I/O voltage? Any other stupidities I should...

ASUS A7V266-E Althon XP 1800+ BIOS Setting

I fried CPU #2 with Alpha8045 HSF using ArticSilver2. I followed the manual. Two jumpers I noticed were differnt from the manual so I changed it. One is PALO_FREQ. It was set to Palomino instead of Althon/Duron. I changed it to default as I have Althon 1800+. The other is I/O Voltage...

Arctic Silver II no good for AMD?!?

I fried my CPU because they didn't change their instructions and I personally believe that the pink stuff is way too thick. It takes some time to burn it off. It melts all that pick stuff and now it fried. So I took off the HSF and looked at the bottom there is a perfect square where it...

ASUS A7V266-E Althon XP 1800+ BIOS Setting

Okay could you verify it? I know the mobo is set for Athlon/Duron, I checked it. I went from cover to cover in the manual. But nowhere in the manual tells you the settings for each CPU speed. They did provide it online when I bought my ASUS P2B mobo. I checked the newegg.com order status...

Radeon 8500 AIW DV???? one quick question

Sorry about last post. Highly unlikely. I just bought the card last Friday along with a new mobo and CPU and memory. Well, CPU is DOA. Waiting for a new one. Beside my best guess is that they used WDM (Windows Driver Model) type, which is supported starting WinMe and on.

ASUS A7V266-E Althon XP 1800+ BIOS Setting

Sorry, I tried to do a search on this information but the search results are far too many to hunt down the answer. As you can see in the subject title which mobo and CPU I have, ASUS A7V266-E, Althon XP 1800+ with PC2100 512MB RAM (one DIMM.) The question is what are the settings for a...
