Try changing Internet Security Settings rather than trusted site. I ran into similar thing yesterday with XP SP2.
This might be redundant, but I will list any way. Open IE, goto Tools -> Internet Options -> security tab -> Click on Internet then click Custom Level. Change Active X controlls...
It really depends on how the installer was built by the software company. If it is only 1 file (setup.exe) with no other files, then probally not. sometimes the additional files are in a zip file, in which case you can simply copy from the zip file. I assume you can not change the destination...
It could be that the power supply does not have enough power. I had an ECS mobo with a 300 watt PS and had similar problems. Swapped it out for a 300 watt with more power on 3.3 and 5 volts and it worked fine.
I had the same problem with Reader 6.0. Try deleting temporary files (.tmp) and restarting. Reader will try to load all of the temp files before it opens.
