It would seem this topic has died... well, time to shock it back into life. I noticed a F9a BIOS over at Gigabyte. Anyone tried it yet?
BTW, contrary to my previous posting, I have flashed my BIOS and I'm at F8 right now. I think it's best to flash when the system is set at stock settings...
I don't really understand what's the issue here. The memory I've got is rated for being able to handle the voltage I'm giving it (2.2V). Is the GA-X38-DQ6 somehow screwing up the memory?
I'll check out my favorite on-line retailer (Komplett.nl) to see if they offer this memory. But I'm sure I...
OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)
It had been working just fine for three months before going haywire. I tested by booting with one stick, which worked fine. Then I put another stick in the second slot (for dual-channel configuration). Booted fine. Removed the...
I've had it with Gigabyte. My first X38 died after a BIOS update (it just wouldn't boot anymore, even though I used the correct update and flashed using the correct procedure), my second X38 seems to be dead too. I woke up this morning to a continually rebooting computer. The thing has been...
Yikes. I'm staying as far away from new BIOSses as possible. The last time I tried it, using the option to flash at boottime (isn't that called Q-Flash?) it killed the motherboard. It wouldn't boot, no matter what you tried - and yes, it was the correct BIOS.
Well, I'm back again! A new GA-X38-DQ6 is in my system now and running nicely. Phew... the moment I turned on the computer was nerve-wrecking, but thank God everything worked just fine. Let's keep it that way! :)
It's a no-go, unfortunately enough... with a basic DDR2 memory module, it still won't boot... damn it, this board is dead... :(
I'll have to switch it for a new one.
I currently have a GeForce 8800 Ultra, the one I'm considering buying to testdrive is a GeForce 7300 something with TurboCache. Only 40 euro's which is still far cheaper than a new motherboard... and if it allows me to boot into the BIOS, at least I can get things working again.
However...
Yup, I tried reinstalling the old ones. Didn't work somehow.
I think somehow both BIOS copies got screwed up. During my several boot-up attempts, I noticed several times that the BIOS was being recovered but each time it just rebooted while recovering. Could that mess up even the backup copy...
I'm toast - I think. My system won't boot anymore.
I was replacing my memory, as usual with the system unplugged. Tried to boot, the system would enter a reboot loop. It would boot for a bit, but before anything could be shown on screen, it would shut down. After a few seconds it would start...
F7F? On the Gigabyte US website, F6B is still stated as the most recent BIOS. Wouldn't it be prudent to have a F6 final before starting to throw around F7 beta BIOSes?
Yes, I have a GA-X38-DQ6. I haven't checked the optical output before, since I'm using a Creative Labs X-Fi soundcard. The on-board audio has been disabled by me. But frankly speaking, I've never seen an optical output which did not have the red light.
I'll take a look tonight to see if it's...
I've never seen an optical output without that red light. As optical is, as you can guess, optical it works by light. I can only assume optical doesn't work with infrared or ultraviolet, so I suppose something's wrong. I suppose the light's off when the optical output isn't enabled. Otherwise...
No, I didn't mean what you had it set at. I meant what GTLref means, what does it stand for :)
(and yes, I do have a quadcore system, however I have a GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard, having previously owned a GA-N680SLI-DQ6 which just does not support a QX6850 CPU correctly)
