I need help expanding my network

That's a very good point. I don't plan on expanding any more than that but you never know. If I buy the above setup, then I will have: 1. Linksys WRT54G - 3 useable ports, 1 port connected to switch 2. Linksys 16 port switch - 15 useable ports, 1 port connected to router That will...

I need help expanding my network

Thank you so much for your replies guys. I did a little research on OpenWrt and it sounds great for my needs. It's like getting an enterprise level router/firewall. It does sound a bit complicated to setup reading through their FAQ but I think I can manage it. This is the hardware I plan...

I need help expanding my network

I currently have an 8 port SMC router. I need to add about 6 or 7 more machines to the network. I was thinking about replacing it with a 16 port router since this router is kind of old but I haven't had any luck finding one with more than 8 ports. Should I buy another router and use the...

What to do if you are cutting into drywall and make the hole too big

I was trying to cut into some drywall earlier to make a cable drop and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Ended up making the hole larger than the faceplate. I found this solution which seems pretty easy: http://areaguides.com/ubuild/punchBigHoleInTheWall.htm Does anyone have any...

Small network, less than 24 ports. Why use a patch panel? Why not straight into a switch?

Thank you very much for this thread. It helped me a lot wiring the network at my office. I ended up using a 24 port patch panel and everything seems to work great. And I'm dying to see that Interop pic. :)

    Win2k & Win98 Network problem - Some machines can't see the others

I have three computers in the network. Two are Windows 2000 and one is Windows 98. The Win98 machine can see both Win2k machines. The first Win2k machine can see the Win98 machine but not the other Win2k machine. The second Win2k machine can't see any of the machines. All the hard drives on...
