raptors... dual 36.7GB or one 74GB?

[/b] Not true. You obviously haven't run a pair in RAID 0.

I am tired of cheap, crappy cases.

Short answer: Lian-Li. Simply the best cases I've worked with in 20-odd years of this, um, hobby. You don't have to worry about a crappy power supply, as most of them don't come with one (you get to choose your own). Expensive as hell.....and worth it. Best, Bill

    Hard drive silencer/insulation?

While not an enclosure, I have used these to amazingly good effect on my 10k Raptor drives: Drive Isolators Don't do anything to cool the drive, but then again, they don't enclose the drive that could actually prevent proper cooling. HTH, Bill

any all in one printer have photo quality ?

I'm using a Hewlett-Packard PSC-2110 (printer/scanner/copier) that does an absolutely incredible job with photos (assuming you use good paper). It was pretty cheap too -- $129 IIRC. Only downsides: the cost of the cartridges and the paper, and this unit doesn't do faxes (if that's important to...

Use my old tube of Arctic Silver (original) or upgrade to Arctic Silver 5?

In a word, yes. My temps went down 2c after replacing AS3 with AS5. If the AS5 was $30 or so, I'd say no. But for $5 or $6, it was definitely worth it to me. Bill

$5 Radeon 9700 passive cooling project... *More PICS added* *Update..OC Results**

I agree. And exactly how do you go about getting a sufficient negative pressure, I have to ask? (not asking you, Insane, just a rhetorical question). Most every case I've seen (including both my Lian-Li's) has numerous small holes in the back panel, which allow a lot of air in. As a result...

The Zalman heatsink, although a bit more expensive, fits perfectly (bottom center in the photo). Zalman on 9600 Pro Best, Bill

Is it my case or my power supplies?

Bingo! That's what's missing here. ATX PSU's are all pretty much the same size, give or take a few millimeters. Bill

Couple quick questions for WDC 36GB Raptor owners

Yeah, I had the same issue with mine. Couldn't stand that 10k RPM "whine." Replaced the two 36 giggers with a pair of 74 giggers. The 74 gigs have NO whine, presumably due to the FDB motors. I'm much happier now. You may want to take a look at some cooling options -- having those drives...

36.7GB raptors jump in price on newegg

Hiya LBS, Nasty? Hmmmm... I've been bantering on internet/BBS forums for, what, about 20 years now, and I have to tell 'ya that I didn't even scratch the surface of nasty. :) :) But thanks for the heads-up just the same. FWIW, Dullard and I went to PM on this subject, and let's just say...

36.7GB raptors jump in price on newegg

Sure, I can follow steps. Can you? Your words: This whole thread is about the original poster's question. No argument. Now you label this as a speculation thread. I can point out where you just said that if you need me to. So where's the initial poster's speculation? He asked a simple...
