I've got a fairly recent HP Pavilion DV7T-3300 laptop whose heat pipes have bitten the dust, looks like a leak developed and the coolant flew the coop and the battery is shot (thanks HP for the shitty battery). However the laptop is based on an i7 and still packs a decent punch albeit.
What...
The stock heatsink on my LGA775 CPU was garbage. I don't know what Intel was thinking when they made the screw bits out of plastic and the pieces that actually keep everything locked in place out of even cheaper plastic. Trying to remove and reseat the heatsink is totally awesome on top of the...
Looking to finish putting together a nice old school box for games as well as tools/hardware I use that aren't compatible with modern serial and/or parallel port applications. Kinda hard to use an ISA card these days right? To preface: I know what I want and adapters to USB are not going to work...
At random ALL network traffic on this box dies. IRC, AIM, MSN, xFire, continue to work just fine as long as I don't disconnect them. Nothing appears in the event viewer indicating a porblem.
A restart of either the router or the box itself and the problem is fixed but both are inconvienent...
It doesn't power on at all. Nothing, no beeps, no lights. It might as well not have a power cable. Right now theres nothing but the atx power line and additional 4 pin connector (atx=20+4 pin then seperate 4 pin) for power. Doesn't do a thing.

I swapped in a PNY 7900gt to test for a friend along with a 300gb Sata Seagate with molex adapter. Now it refuses...
I worship my 2405FPW. No ghosting I've ever seen in any game, 1080P input, the only thing it doesn't do is 480/720p without stretching to fill the picture.
The idea is to have the parts contract enough that everything will work long enough to recover what you need. It doesn't always work because in this instance something is assumed to be misaligned or similar where as if the controller board is gone this won't help. But it is always worth at least...
I concur with the above. I've got several Dell and Compaq machines that mount vertically. Diagnol would be the only one that I would worry about but I'd image harddrives are sturdy enough for it.
I've had p1s and 486s that have been massacred I've fixed by a combonation of straightening the pin by hand and using the zif socket to pound them into shape. All worked out pretty well, course an AM2 is much denser pin wise than either of those procs were.
I invested in the 939 platform in March, so my max is 4800+ x2 or whatever is the last opteron made. Personally I will only buy nForce platforms, and I'm just not impressed with how the Intel portion is shaping up. I haven't looked into the AM2 side yet but I'll bet it's a hell of a lot better.
Thats due to the P4 throttling back it's clock rate against the temperature it's running at. The interesting part is how Windows doesn't BSOD when it happens like another CPU did when a similar test was performed. I think it was the P3, BSOD but didn't fry.
