wow. I figured it out. There was a setting in the bios under power that said disable to install service pack 1. Thanks to everyone that helped. I really appreciate it.

I have tried to install unbuntu. it starts but the screen eventually goes black and nothing happens. i am going to try and see if there is anything in the bios that i can turn off but the options on this computer are few.

It also says "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" if that means anything.

The cd rom does seem to make more noise than it should. Anyone know how to make an iso image on a flash drive?

I am doing a fresh install on a laptop of windows xp home. I can start and finish the formatting from the boot menu. When it restarts and begins the install, it gets about 3/4 of the way done and then i get a blue screen. It does this every time. What could be going wrong.

I have no problems with on board audio at all. On my last pc i had a 5.1 surround and it cracked a lot. When i built a new one i discovered that it was my speakers, not the audio, so i bought a nice 2.1 system and to me it seems pristine.

Dorgem works with any windows compatible webcam or camera. I've also seen systems at Menard's if you have one in your area.

I've used Dorgem before on my computer. http://dorgem.sourceforge.net/. It's discontinued but it still works fine, and it's free. I'm not sure what you could use for hardware though.

one comes with mcafee?

I run mine on an evga 8800 gt and on medium settings it runs pretty well. it might take a little troubleshooting though.

I think you just need a headphone to rca converter. Pretty sure they sell them at any hardware or electronics store.
