It's either both or just the second one, but it's going to backfire because these days, if you are above room temperature IQ, you are voting straight D ticket unless you already hate Democrats to your core. If you hate Democrats and there is no third party, you'll rationalize why you have to vote for Trump come election day even if you hate him, because you know deep down you can never vote for a Democrat. At least Trump doesn't eat babies like every single Democrat does.
RFK Jr is all about stealing votes from Biden. He knows he doesn't stand a chance of getting elected, but he will probably steal enough votes to help Trump.

I disagree

He is anti vax, women’s rights, weird stance on gay and etc…

Seems more of a right winger than anything else to me

I don't necessarily disagree with you...but in the end, he can't defeat Trump...and he knows it, so all he can do is try to steal enough (D) votes to help Trump.

One of his campaign officials was just caught on tape stating that the goal was to re-elect Trump.

It's a GQP funded operation.

Dammit…

But that is probably not going to look good for trump and RFK jr

But people are stupid

Yeah their goal is to defeat Biden, but they've decided the best way to do that is to mimic Trump. Good plan.

What's RFK Jr.'s long term goal here? He has to know he'll never be President. Is he looking to sell books, nutritional supplements?

Good question with any of these 3rd party candidates not named Perot. There's likely money in it somewhere, along with the ego boost. Maybe some kind of glee in being a spoiler for one of the candidates that stand a chance, like some 3 and 13 NFL team that celebrates when they upset a team to knock them out of playoff contention.

Anyway, they can all go to hell, especially the "Green" party. I say that as someone who counts environmentalism high on my list of priorities.

Green Party Alum.

Sinema’s shift: ‘Prada socialist’ to corporate donor magnet.

Spoiled it for her Republican opponent, then spoiled it for the whole country.

Yeah, all that changed when Trump and Bannon teamed up.

I bet half a good chunk of Trump voters and crazy cons were hippies. Remember, don't trust the government was high on the list. I know of a couple ex-junkies in the heart of the culture that found god and you know with the whole ball of wax. Some people could never handle edge city.

What is your definition of "chunk" and how would the bet be decided? I would gladly take the opposite side. While an extremely small portion of the people I knew from then have since become libertarians or worse, the vast majority remain steadfast. Remember too that there was huge chunk of the population back then were Nixon supporters (like Trump and Roger Stone). The main reasons we supposedly hated the government back were the draft (we were the ones being enslaved to fight a deadly, unpopular and useless war) and police brutality. The cops were frequently used to repress blacks (especially in the South) and youths who actively protested against the War.

IMO it's basically the same 40% now that support Trump that supported Nixon back then.

From what I have seen, Thump is correct. And the pandemic added napalm to that fire. The vast majority of crystal rubbing, anti-vax woo following gritty granola folks that I have seen are now hard core Trump. They feel HE is the anti-establishment guy because society asked them to mask up and vaccinate (and social media removed their anti-vax/alt-med posts) and they are having a fucking tantrum over that... they all went down a deep fucking rabbit hole of conspirtuality. They were already primed by the alt-med grifter industry narrative to swallow fantastical BS and COVID restrictions sent them squarely into Don the Con's camp.

RFK Jr. is a perfect example of this. The formerly leftist hyper environmental types who fell down rabbit holes of constantly being scared of every chemical, microwave and vaccine now think Trump is their savior.

That's 180 degrees opposite of what I said. And speaking of JFK Jr did you see the picture of the mass gathering of Kennedy offspring in support of Biden on the White House steps? Admittedly there are some people like RFK Jr always infatuated with the religion/politics that is trendy this minute but I stick by my guns that the vast majority of former hippies remain left leaning to this day.

Caveat: If those hippies were deep into anti-science alt-med and/or anti-vax, more than likely they're Trumpers now.

If, on the other hand, those hippies were not into anti-science alt-med and/or anti-vaxxers, they're probably still leftists now.

COVID was a complete game changer for millions of people already primed by the alt-med grifter narratives. MOST of those were granola hippies.

Anti-vax used to be roughly 50/50 left right. Now it is almost 3-1 right. Anti-vax sentiment didn't just grow on the right, a LOT of anti-vax leftists ran to the right when the right so openly embraced them and gave them confirmation bias.

BOTH parties used to keep conspiracy freaks on the fringe. The right opened it's arms and welcomed the batshitters in by fully embracing their batshittery.

- I might have mentioned it in this thread much earlier, but I watched this play out in a slightly different way with my FIL.

Dude was a bonafide Bay Area communist hippy back in the day, decided to back-pack the world to avoid the draft, etc. Highly self motivated, generally very intelligent man, but he's got his picadillos.

As an old man he's made a small fortune and is now deeply conservative in a "freedom from government" kind of way. The old hippie bleeds through too, he has said in passing in complete seriousness "your bare feet have to touch dirt every once in a while to balance your energies". He was always skeptical of vaccines, likely due to their "mandated" nature, pushing my wife and I to delay/skip/stretch out our kids vaccination schedule (we didn't, and they're fine).

Obama pushed him to his limits, he evangelized Trump who could do no wrong in his eyes, and Covid straight up broke the man.

Then the other day, when I was picking up the kids, he bellowed out of nowhere "I think I finally found a DEMOCRAT I can vote for! RFK Jr. is talkin' a whole lot of sense!"

And it was at that moment that I knew that RFK was going to steal more votes from Trump than from Biden, despite his name.

Firms up my belief that the two main events that "broke" people were Obama's election and COVID.

President Obama was about as provocative as slightly-warm milk--we could have used a bit more fight from him IMO--so anyone who "broke" due to Obama was over one thing. And I'm not talking about imaginary FEMA death camps.

I'd give a lot for Candidate Obama about now though--and that's even when I think Biden has done a somewhat better job as President. I'll take whatever (even RFK jr, though barely) if it keeps Trump out of power.
