Bingo, that goes both ways. There's a reason why China and Russia really don't actually directly poke the West, because they're dependent on them as well.
It goes both ways far more for China than it does for Russia. Russia is in much less of a symbiotic relationship with the West than is China. Hence they have been doing some serious poking. The deterrent for them is more the traditional fear of nuclear mutual destruction.
China has a _lot_ more to lose in just the disruption of the current order. Their route to increase power and influence doesn't rely on sending in tanks.
