2023 Tax Software (H&R Block)

If you use H&R Block's tax filing software, Newegg has a pretty decent deal for BF. It may not be the cheapest it could be before filing date, but it's still a good price, based on what I saw when I previously purchased in January 2023 for 2022 filing.

Use the coupon codes noted, and it'll cost you $20 (Deluxe [Fed only]), $25 (Deluxe [Fed + 1 state]), $37.50 (Premium), or $45 (Premium & Business).

Just note that the free e-files are only for Federal returns; states will still cost $20 for the e-filing, even if you have the software. Personally, still worth it for me, if only to get a state refund faster, and to avoid a trip to the post office to send something via registered mail (and those associated costs).

I've used H&R Block for at least a decade, no complaints except I absolutely despise how they (and TurboTax as well) gouge you for an extra $20 per state filing. Since I've retired and no longer have a business my taxes are now much more simple, may check out some of the absolutely free alternatives.

Yeah, the state filing fee is annoying. I heard that some states have fillable forms you can submit yourself, so if you were so inclined, you could just use the software to populate your return, then manually transfer the numbers to the state's system.

The only reason I used Newegg was just some other ongoing bonuses: Citi has some 1-2% extra at Newegg, and some shopping portals like the airline ones, also give miles for Newegg, if you were looking to maximize some bonuses.

I'm in the opposite situation from you, I get my bonuses from buying from Amazon. Both companies present very valid reasons to hate them but for now, at least, I hate Amazon less.

My state still allows paper filing so I just print that one out and mail it in.

$17.99 for Deluxe (fed and one state, download), $14.99 fed only, $34.99 Premium, etc. at Newegg using code CPTAX2233. Basically all their versions are on sale and can apply this code to any of them.

I was going to check out the free software this year but this is an excellent price for Deluxe including one state. NOTE: Just like all the others, fed electronic filings are free but they gouge you to electronically file with your state. I still use snail mail for that.

Yeah, I realize I probably could have waited to purchase, but it's only ~$10 difference, so NBD for me.

The state filing fee is kind of annoying - $20 last year. I guess I could have printed and mailed, but I'd want to send registered mail, so when you account for time to mail and that cost, it's kind of a wash. (And if you're getting a refund, it can take longer to process)
