Zuni I have a statistical question

How much TB of storage it takes to run, archive and backup all the posts and Theads at AnandTech Forums - I mean from day one - the very first post...

Also - what is the current post count at AnandTech Forums?

And if it isn't a big secret - How much does it costs to run AnandTech Forums? - you don't need to answer that if you don't want to 😉

Only 1.2 gigs? Whoa, I would've thought it was bigger than that. Although, accumulating 1.2 gigs (in all text, no less) of posts in a year's time is pretty impressive. Imagine how large the DB would be if these forums allowed image uploads like Delphi does.

Well... it would be able to _hold_ the database, yeah. Acting as the database server would be another issue entirely. THere's no way your computer would be able to do that alone 🙂

The db is a dual Xeon 550Mhz with 1mb cache in each. and 1 gb of ram. The big thing with a db server is I/O since a db is still a file. It's using a nice raid controller with 4 Ibm 9lzx drives I believe.

Yep, exactly. The single IDE drive on Paulson's computer would choke big time on the I/O demands that a db server would require. 😛
