Zuni ,any chance of a RC5 icon?

Mem

Lifer
RC5 icon next to our PM,view profile, poll icons etc would be cool for us RC5 crackers for Anandtech of course.

🙂

Sorry but what is RC5? I know alot of you have joined with Anandtech to form this RC5 clan thing or whatever... I think I have read it somehwer about this! But what do you do or point me to a link where I can read it up!

Thanks,

Albert.

A2KLAU, if you're interested in the RC5 competition, you'll want to take a look at Team Anandtech's page, Distributed.net's page, and the Distributed Computing forum.

A quick synopsys is, RC5 is a type of encryption, and the goal of the project originally was to show that RC5's 56 (and 64) bit encryption was too weak for secure communications. There was a US government regulation limiting products with encryption for export to a maximum of 56 bit encryption.

Hrm. Let me know if that didn't make any sense 🙂 Like I said, you'll want to take a look at the above sites.

Mem, that is an interesting idea, the RC5 icon could link to our stats page at Distributed.net. For example, my participant number for RC5-64 is 233441, making the URL http://stats.distributed.net/rc5-64/psummary.php3?id=233441 for my stats page at Distributed.net. I also am doing the companion project, OGR, and the OGR stats are similarly arranged.

Zuni, basically, if we could have an option in our Profile to enter a participant number... then the RC5 icon would simply send us to the URL with that number on the end. If we could have an OGR one too, it would be equally simple. I will ask the AnandTech SETI guys what the scheme is for SETI. 🙂

For SETI, you have just to enter your cracking email adress in line like this one

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?email=my_seti_email@my_provider&cmd=user_stats_new

Instead of 3 or 4 icons, there could be a Distributed Computing icon, and a box would come up with the projects they checked off, and links?
It just seems simpler then multiple icons.

We wont be modding the forums for this.. sorry but we stay with the codebase that fusetalk does. Updating the codebase everytime we upgrade is not going to happen . Sorry, but there are limitations.

It dosn't have to be part of the forums, you could make it something like the Rigs. The forums wouldn't have to do anything, and you could make money with the advertising.

Yes, but the rigs have to go in your sig. We can put our RC5/SETI stats in our sigs currently. We were talking about having a special button for the stats.

But Sukhoi, right now there isnt enough room for me to put my Rig, Seti, and RC5 stats into my sig with the limit. Since we cannot get an icon, the next best thing is a rig-type link, right? That would let people have enough room for funny comments, links, etc, which I suspect was the major intent for the sig.
I really like this idea, and I hope it dosn't just die away.
