Zune won't connect to PC

Friend has 2 Zunes, when she plugs either in, they both make the beep when a USB device is connected, but instantly make the beep like when you disconnect a USB device. The beeps loop connect/disconnect until she unplugs the Zune. I had her remove and reinstall the Zune software and it didn't help.

to Zune haters, she has an iPod, and suggesting she get one isn't going to help fix this problem

Both are 1st gen 30 gig ones. They were working up until last week, and nothing on the PC has changed. She tried different USB ports and the cables that came with both Zunes to make sure it wasn't a cable issue.

Well, you said it best: sounds like her Zune is teh dead.

You might need to reboot/reset the zune. I think if you hold both buttons and the center button for 5? seconds it will do a total reboot.

If the reset doesn't work. Try deleting/uninstalling the Zune device and drivers from device manager. When reinstalling, the drivers should be located in program files\zune\drivers...or something like that.

edit:

For the different ports she's tried, were they directly on the back of the computer? I remember my sister telling me she's tried all the ports for a similar problem with a scanner. But she was using the hubbed ports on her monitor, computer front, etc...she forgot there were usb ports on the back at all.

update: she has 2 totally different Zunes, one is brand new. Well brand new refurbished from the box. Both had the problem, I tried Unzoone to totally remove all the drivers and reinstall the software. We tried unplugging her internet and installing the version 1.1 CD that came with it. It wouldn't install until we connected to the internet so it could download 3.1. Took us 4 hours but I got it working. Zunes are a pain in the ass. I'm glad I have a Touch, never had a single problem with it *knock on wood*

I have two zunes: one 4GB flash and one 80GB one. Never had any issues with it at all

Never had a problem with my Zune. Had tonnes of problems with my Zen, my iPod, and a couple of problems with my Gigabeat S, but never my Zune.

Glad to hear it got fixed though.

Had kinda the same issue. Log in as a different user to the PC and see if it works. Ended up being something corrupt with my user login..
