What do you guys use? I need something, but most of the video converters out there do not seem safe.

I was using Windows Media Encoder, but it doesn't convert AVI and stuff like that. I can't find any codecs for it either. So what is good?
 
Handbrake is pretty good and the Windows version has come a long way.
 
Handbrake is good. I also like Avidemux, which has a Zune preset.

Windows Media Encoder relies on the proper directshow codecs being installed. And even then it's sometimes finicky. I usually have pretty good luck using avisynth in conjunction with WME.
