Zune and Vista RC2

I'm going to buy Zune, but my current OS is Vista RC2. I heard that Zune isn't supported. Can somebody confirm?
Another concern, I have Ubuntu. Will it recognize and support Zune? Any thoughts?

I am about 90% certain that it will require special propriatory software to run the Zune. (this means no Linux, and probably no OS X.)

And I don't think that Microsoft is run by morons so the official Vista release will be supported by Zune software. I don't know about the RC2 stuff, I am sure that Microsoft couldn't give a crap about supporting it so it may or may not work.

If you want something that has cross-platform compatability look at Iaudio products (among others).

I would assume that Zune uses a more or less strange version of Microsoft's already somewhat deviant and nonstandard MTP. A bunch of the "playsforsure"(unless it's from the Zune marketplace) players also supported Mass Storage Class operation, so they could be used with standard software; but the Zune doesn't.

Unless our dear and daring hackers manage to work around http://www.freescale.com/files/32bit/doc/white_paper/IMX31SECURITYWP.pdf in the near future, I don't think that the Zune will do much interoperating with Linux.

Zune is intentionally incompatable with 'playforsure' stuff.

The reason I like Iaudio's (or Cowon) offerings is because (features depend on models) is that it just uses mass storage class. It'll depends on file directory system for one sort of playlist operation, it can read id3 tags off of files, or it can use just standard m3u playlist files.

So you can use whatever you like with them, any program you'd like.
