Zune 3.1 update

I plugged my zune in this morning to sync my podcasts, and checked for the new firmware. It said that I had the latest 3.0 (225). Have you been able to update to 3.1? I guess I'll try again tonight.

I was able to install it last night with no problem. Just loaded up the zune software, settings, check for updates and had it.

Just updated without any issues.

I had to download directly from Microsoft as the update in the program was doing nothing. Just go to download.microsoft.com and search for zune. It's one of two files (the other is 3.0) and install directly.

My software picked it up yesterday. I'm hoping they've finally solved the problem with uploading my play count.

Dunno if anyone else noticed but I think it's awesome that ZunePass subscribers now get to download, for their permanent collection, 10 songs from the marketplace per month.

So, for $15/month, you actually do get to buy (most of) an album....in addition to having unlimited access to the ZunePass library.

That "10 free forever per month" idea is really smart - I think that it takes a lot of the wind out of iTunes sails. And since 10 isn't quite enough for an album, you're going to be buying MS points. Might be time to stock up during promotions.

It would have been cooler if they had credited them retroactively to us, but you can't have it all.

I'm quite happy with the new 10 songs per month thing. That's simply awesome. What I have done in past is when I come across a song that I know that I will want to keep forever, I go to Amazon and buy it there because I don't like the zune points system for buying music. Now I don't have to do that. Bad news for Amazon, great news for me.

Holy shit, the 10 free tracks is a great idea. Too bad we can't download 10 tracks for each month we've been a subscriber, I'd have 240 songs to pick out .

I'm going back and forth between a few players and right now the zune 120 is tops on my list. Speaking of the zune pass, how often do you find a song that you want but realize its not included in the pass?

For me, it's only happened three times. With Metallica, Tool, and Kid Rock.

Has anyone had battery issues after installing this? After updating to this firmware my battery keeps draining all of the time, even when the stupid thing is supposedly off. Every morning when I wake up the thing is dead. This never happened prior to this most recent firmware update.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to rollback firmware, but does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do here?

It's extremely annoying.

Do you have your wireless enabled? Since I've turned mine off I've noticed much better battery performance.

Yea for whatever reason when I had it enabled the zune would shut down and need to be recharged when the battery display appeared to be just below half, with wireless off I've been able to go well below that mark.
