Zune 2.0 software moving media files on its own!

So, I've noticed that the new zune software is moving my mp3s from my organized mp3 folder to it's own media folder, which is assigned as the place for podcasts, received files, ripped files, and zune marketplace downloads. How do I keep it from moving my files of it's own volition? This is very frustrating, especially when I choose a song to play in the zune library, only to hear a completely different track (haven't noticed this on the zune itself, only on my pc with the zune software). Anybody else experiencing this, and better yet, able to keep this from happening?

Thanks in advance,
Trevor

So, nobody else has noticed this, or just don't have a fix?

I have the software but not this issue. Make sure you uncheck/remove all options that let the zune do stuff for you. Remove all other directories (my documents/my music) to scan and just let it read your main mp3 directory. Been doing that and it's been good since then.

Now if I could only figure out how to update album art in either that or wmp11.

Use iTunes to change the cover Art and it will update in other apps for you.

I've never hard of this happening either. I just drag the folder I want it to scan and then I create playlists and sync it to my zune. I never see it move files around and I have had it search multiple folders in multiple locations via drag+drop.

I have both WMP11 and the Zune software installed - why should I have to install iTunes to get it to work? In WMP11 I can find no way to change the cover art to what I want for an mp3 and it's highly annoying considering it's supposed to be the MS equivalent to iTunes.

I've tried to do it manually via tag and rename, but for some reason the id3/album art that tag and rename uses does not apply to what WMP11 reads on the files?

Because iTunes IS THE ONLY OPTION!

It's not going to kill you to use iTunes to edit the ID tags. Microsoft doesn't let you, so use something else

WMP is not the equivelant of iTunes, sorry. Apple made good software, it's very useful even if you don't have an iPod.

Ok - I may have come off as an apple hater or whatever. I don't mind itunes, but the thing is it's not the id3 tags. I use tag and rename to update id3 tags great. The thing is that even when I remove album art via tag and rename WMP still sees the album art, so I think WMP has some weird place it stores it that's not the id3 tag? I'm not sure.

WMP11 has a mass tag editor. Highlight several files, right-click and select "Advance Tag Editor". You can also copy/paste album art in WMP11, which is especially useful if you use, say, Amazon.com's media library. In IE or firefox there will be a context right-click selection to "copy" or "copy image". After doing that there's another context right-click option to "paste album art" in WMP11. This is best done by viewing by album so that all the files in that particular album will update with the new art as a group.

The "find album info" function in WMP is somewhat hit or miss, IME, on actually updating the album art...everything else works fine though.

Remember that in WMP tracks in albums are grouped by "album artist", "artist" is a whole different field. This way you can have your "various artists" albums/tracks together while still crediting the individual artist, per song.

As far the files moving about, there's an option in the library settings that is probably ticked. Something like "arrange/organize music files based on rip settings." Untick that if you don't want your files being moved around.

However, consider that these programs (WMP, iTunes, Zune, and a plethora of others) are designed to manage file organization for you. The idea is that moving and manipulating files is outdated and should be transparent....your only concerns should be ripping, playing and syncing with your respective players. It took me awhile to get over my OCD with this too.

With my Zune, it syncs my playlists automatically and any album art I need I drop the file to iTunes and tell it to find the artwork. Then it is automatically transferred to the Zune software and ultimately synced with my Zune.
