Wondering how their 5.7" "Grand Memo" could have Snapdragon 800 when the One only has the 600?

Oh right, it doesn't. Doesn't even have a 600, in fact! Read through for more amusing lies.

Oh yeah, and don't buy ZTE devices. Not that any of us were going to.

I remember reading this review on Engadget
http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/25/zte-grand-memo-hands-on-snapdragon-800/

The guy says how fast it is and faster than previous gen phones. Quite different from the article in the OP. Makes you wonder how they actually test these phones. If it's as laggy as the OP article says, then Engadget didn't even play with the phone or what.

Engadget updated their article.

Apparently, official word from Qualcomm is this has a Snapdragon 600 in it. So, they lied/misspoke about the 800, but any claims it doesn't even have the 600 are false.

edit:
it appears this is all discussing the updates as well.

Well... I'd argue it's most likely different versions or something else is wacky. I doubt this would have something other than the 600 if that's what Qualcomm says it actually has. Perhaps the display model is different...?

Qualcomm's press release is a press release.

ZTE may have contracted to ship units with the 600 someday. But when the actual unit on display performs in every way like a S4pro, it's an S4pro.

After having a chance to play with the ZTE Grand Memo yesterday, I was a bit perplexed. It was kind of slow. Actually, it was really slow - I haven't seen UI lag like that on a top-tier smartphone in over a year. It was terrible switching between tasks, and while ZTE's hilariously overwrought UI is likely slowing it down a fair bit, something just didn't feel right for a phone allegedly running on the very newest Snapdragon chip.

real-world performance is immediately noticeable. OS actions on the skinned Jelly Bean UI don't just zip, they now quite literally fly -- truly, this device is deserving of the long-deceased "beast" moniker.

Quite a difference in the impressions from the 2 different websites. Wonder who is right.

Is it at all possible that, perhaps, both are right?

If the phone is supposed to ship with the Snapdragon 600, but they couldn't produce many with it inside, perhaps some demo units were using much older internals just so they could have a few units to present?

Just playing devil's advocate here... but there has to be an honest reason, nothing nefarious, for such glaring review differences. Engadget is usually pretty good about impressions.

Lol. From Android Central:
(Update: ZTE staffers on the show floor tell us that the demo units on display are running Snapdragon S4 Pro (8064) chips, and that several different versions of the Memo will be available, including the Snapdragon 800-powered model announced earlier this week.)

WTF...
Wait, so ZTE will release the Grand Memo with 3 different processors and still call all the phones Grand Memo.

Forget that, I'm not going to play their SnapDragon lottery game.

Samsung has done this with both the Galaxy S2 and S3. Depending on the region of the world, you might get one of the two chipsets. As long as they stick to a region of the world, this isn't a big deal. However, if it's a lottery like you said and all three will be sold in the US, then it's insane.

Qualcomm has said that ZTE will have Snapdragon 800 phones, but they didn't say which ones.

I was under the impression that ZTE are cheap phones but not good phones. BTW I would never mind it's excellent enough if the price is attractive enough.
