Interesting note:

One reason many people have chosen the LED/LCD variety over Plasma in the past has been the life expectancy of the panel or the possibility of suffering “image burn” on a plasma screen. Panasonic are touting up to one hundred thousand hours of solid usage before the brightness begins to subside. According to the company’s press release, that equates to “more than 30 years of viewing when watched 8 hours a day.”

the public has always been worried about 'panel life' but the fact is, the electronics ALWAYS fail before the screen.

Not true I have had my samsung plasma for 7 years.
About 4 mounts agao I started seeing some burn in from my wife and daughter looking ant some 480p shows on it to much and the black is so dark it is hard to see much more than the faces in a dark background.

I keep seeing folks recommend the Vt50, St50 but if you look at the amazon forums on these sets you see a good bit of folks complain about early burn in and other problems with the screen itself.

Kinda goes like this I had a top loading VCR with a corded remote for years. after the dog chewed threw the remote I decided to get a new one. with in 3 months it broke.

Problem is new tech is more expensive when it first comes out do to better quality components being used. IE the VCR went from metal to plastic gears.

They do this to bring the cost down and some times it will not cause a problem but many time it will.

They also do it for "planned obsolescence". They want you to buy a new one in a year or two. If they made a product that lasted 15 years they would be out of business fast.

I believe they're scheduled to be available in March.

typically the new TVs start shipping in march. Last year it took until june/jult for the VT line to be available. GT and ST were in March/april

so you may be waiting slightly longer if you want a ZT

Expect ZT to be available in July/Aug timeframe and since it is 'premium' priced/positioned it will be a trickle initially and retailers will not discount much...
