In addition to the nice overclock, the custom cooler is incredible. It's dead silent at load, and the GPU temperature is actually lower than the 5850.

Plus the card uses slightly less power than a reference GTX470, despite being clocked higher and using a beefier cooler.

Wow, I can't wait to see how a GTX480 behaves with that cooler.

Is that cooler triple slot?

OT, does anyone know the dimensions of the GTX470 heatspreader?

OT again, Zotac it seems has a lifetime warranty...might have to give them a try next time.

its quiet, only 67C under load and uses 26 LESS watts than standard gtx470. now theres a 470 I can deal with. will that card be available in the US?

Seems to be a lot of GTX 470 nonreference, but where are the GTX 480? haha

I like the look of that card actually. There seems to be a lot of nonreference coolers out or announced, though I can't find a single one on Newegg. There was the Inno3D one, and the Galaxy one as well.

Yes, it’s triple slot, so it’ll dump most of the heat back in the case. Still, if your PSU is at the bottom of your case and your CPU & case fans have fixed speeds, it shouldn’t affect their noise levels at all.

My Antec 902 should have no trouble exhausting that heat with its 120 mm rear and 200 mm top exhaust fans.

There's an Amp! version of the GTX480 that uses the same cooler, but I haven't seen it reviewed yet.

I'm not sure why we should get overly excited that a triple slot, dual fan, custom cooler makes the GTX-470 run cooler and quieter than a reference HD5850?

I think they are more focused on the 470 at this point since its a much bigger selling card.

That is true...but it's a start (hopefully) towards better overall GTX470s.

Yeah no. If the card just ran cooler there'd be no need to design such a monstrosity.

I only looked at the techpowerup review and that 480 is unacceptably loud at idle.

It's funny, but the German website got really low idle noise levels. I wonder if TechPowerUp had a defective sample?

90 Euro premium for this solution.

Although specs are convincing and tempting, the price is not. This baby will (probably) be 30-40 Euro more expensive, than a ref 5870.

If the premium would be around 40 Euros (which I expected/hoped) I would not hesitate to buy it.

That basically looks like a beefier T-Rad2 GTX with a custom shroud. I would expect it to be quieter than that, likely it's just poor fan selection.

Very nice HSF, I have a friend who got same thing. It took the load from 90c at times low noise level. He wanted to OC and I told him hell need a custom HSF

So he installed the sam zotac and his load temp is 64c with plus he can OC. He did his first OC , but I warned him and told him exactly what to do and how to do it. Hes happy with MW2. He says its smooth like butter no matter what.... good stuff, thx
