Pics were taken with the Canon Rebel XT and a Sigma 50-500mm lens... like I said in the original post

Rebel XT: $700
Sigma aka "Bigma: $675
Feisol 3301 carbon fiber tripod + Bogen Manfrotto 486RC ballhead: $250

is the sigma very big/heavy? i'd imagine so... i didn't know they made a 50-500

The Sigma 50-500mm is a pretty big lens. The weight is 4 or 5 pounds.

Use with a tripod or monopod is almost required, unless it's a bright and sunny day and you've got access to shutter speeds faster than 1/1000sec at 500mm. The image quality isn't too bad, but it does get a bit soft near 500mm, which is unfortunate. Heh, but at least is GETS there.
