I have WinXP Pro and ZoneAlarm Pro (latest version). I am trying to use a webcam with .NET Messenger over the internet. Zonealarm won't let the video stream through from my computer to the recipient. If I close Zonealarm then there is no problem but obviously this deefeats the purpose of having a firewall. Any ideas how I can get round this???

Thanks in advance

i have win xp pro and zone alarm pro, its kinda easy:
you know how when you start up a program your usally get a zone alarm pop-up asking whether or not you wanna let this program acess the internet make sure you allow it to say yes. then make sure you also are allowing it to work in the zone alarm properties. when you go into the zone alarm area (the window with all the main controls ) make sure you have the right security settings and so forth, you should be able to figure it out once your inside ;)

I don't know how .net works but every vid program works differently and use varying numbers of ports to send and receive video... meaning they often need to open a wide berth of ports to work properly. This is precisely what ZA is supposed to block.

Check the ZA and .net sites. They often give you the ports used so you can manually setup ZA. This is further complicated on a network or though a router as the network needs to know to which computer to forward those ports.

However, many vid programs just don't work well through firewalls. I've been through this myself and talked to a few others. Many have finally just DMZ'd the one machine in the office network and left it only for videoconferencing.

I think you will have to give your programs server rights for them to work. That will allow them to accept incoming data directed to them via any port.
