Hello all. I am having an issue that I cant find an answer for. I upgraded from free to pro and now I get connection problems. Not every time, just every once in a while. I am on dial up using WinXp Pro. I can dial in and surf for long periods of time with no problems and then just all of a sudden I can't access the web. Sometimes I can just shut down zonealarm and I can get surfing again, but sometimes I need to reboot. It is really frustratin. I dialed in many times on Saturday with no problem, I even was on for a few hours Saturday night. I got up Sunday morning and was unable to get to the web. Does anyone have any ideas?

I upgraded from the free version to the Pro version without the problems you are describing but I did have an issue with Outlook XP after the upgrade. I was unable to send email out unless I shut down ZoneAlarm. I simply deleted the ZoneAlarm entry for Outlook and let ZoneAlarm re-create it when it detected Outlook's attempts to access the Internet. After I did that, everything started to work properly

I would delete the current programs that are allowed/denied access by ZoneAlarm and "re-train" the software. It's kind of a brute force solution, but it might save your sanity in the long run.

Are you 100% sure it's zonealarm? I would try leaving it off for a few days to make sure it's ZA's fault. I've installed ZA on a couple hundred PC's without problem, so I'm a bit surprized....then again, I didn't deal with XP.

I had it off for about a week and had no issues. Once I put it back on I had problems again. Plus whenever this happens I can fix it by shutting off ZA. I still want to use this firewall so I will keep playing with it.

Before you installed the Pro version did you uninstall the 2.6 version and then clean the registry with a good regcleaner and then delete all the folders left over from the other install?

No. Should I try that now? What do you recommend as a good reg cleaner? Thanks.

I used Norton Ut to kind of clean out my system, then I used the reg cleaner. This was after I uninstalled the 2.6 version first. I can't remember the version of reg cleaner I use but do a google search, it's free an works great. Then I did a search for anything Zone Alarm and deleted those in explorer. If you go to the Zone Alarm site there is some info also.

<< No need to bother with a firewall while using dialup. >>

I like to be extra safe! I have seen my firewall block a few hack attempts and dont want to be online without it.

Same here

You quite sure it isn't your ISP playing you up?
Occasionally my dialup connection just refuses to access any sites ,though I dont get disconnected ,often ICQ will still work & SETI can still acess the server:confused:

I had thought that, but ny neighber uses the same ISP and he has no problems. I even went over there the other night when I was locked up and he was fine. So I used reg clean and deleted anything I could find with zonealarm and I reinstalled, worked great until this morning. I got the same issue, this time instead of shutting ZA down, I poked around. I then uninstalled that QOS thing that XP installs and I was surfing again. I am wondering if that had an issue with ZA pro. I didnt have to reconnect, reboot or shut down ZA. I will test it again tonight and let you all know. Wish me luck!

QoS Networking Quality of Service

edit- Well so far it looks as though it was this QoS. I have had no issues since I uninstalled it. I have also noticed that my download speed is a bit faster. Not much because I am on dial up, but a tad. Also by the way, I was getting pinged pretty heavy again last night with some port scan. It was trying to hit all my ports and was blocked every time. Even though I am on dial up I still find it an ease of mind to have my firewall up! Thanks for all the input guys.
