Check your network configuration -- maybe ZoneAlarm somehow messed it up.
Go into the Network applet of the Control Panel, and make sure:
1) Your Internet device (modem or NIC) is recognized
2) TCP/IP is installed
3) TCP/IP is configured correctly with IP address and DNS servers

"winipcfg" / "ipconfig" may be helpful.

Good luck!

Not exactly a solution, but have you tried re-installing Zone Alarm to see if everything comes back?

I had this happen to me. I kept getting DNS Server errors in the Explorer bar at the bottom and couldn't connect. The message I got was:
res://c:windows\system\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm - Microsoft Internet Explorer.

After I had reformatted my harddrive, a techie friend of mine told me to go into ZoneAlarm and make sure that all progams listed under the Program tab are deleted before I uninstall. It was too late for me to try it, but you might want to give it a try.

He told that when you uninstall ZoneAlarm, you never really do, which explains why when I reinstalled, all the programs I had used were all still listed under the Programs tab.

I hope this helps because I got absolutely no support from my ISP because they don't support ZoneAlarm and the reformat was my last option.

I have heard of many people having similar problems with ZA. I would check the registary to see if the uninstall was completed.

(-Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTz10) (-Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTZAMailsafe)

Delete the value for both.

Reboot computer.

I suggest you do this in Safe Mode and also back up your registary. I hope it works.

Something to try before you reformat.

Shut down to Dos mode. Type scanreg /restore . Pick a file before you installed ZoneAlarm. Install it.

Your registry is saved each time you start up unless you have disabled it. Restore the last registry listed before you installed ZA and you should be up and going again.

she deleted the references in the registry..and deleted the zonealarm program directory..still a no go...
btw: when she does RENEW ALL in winipcfg, it gives a DHCP UNABLE TO RENEW ADAPTER for the PPP adapter, and i think a UNABLE TO REACH SERVER (not really sure) for the ethernet card....
the weird thing is, even for the PPP adapter it has the IP and DNS for the cablemodem.....but its always been like that and worked fine
