Zone Alarm ruined my PC

I'd just like to start this post off by recomending against anyone here using ZoneAlarm, ever. If you like to have your computer host servers for stuff, DO NOT INSTALL THIS PIECE OF CRAP.

Okay, so, on to my actual question.

I uninstalled ZoneAlarm, deleted every file listed on the uninstall page, deleted registry entries pertaining to those files, disabled windows firewall, and properly re-forwarded the appropriate port (26000) to get Quake running, but it won't work. You know why? Because Quake wasn't on the "approved" programs list while ZoneAlarm was installed. ZoneAlarm is now NOT installed and is STILL CONTROLLING WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T USE WHILE ONLINE. I am at my wit's end trying to solve this problem and I'm about to just give up and reformat unless I can find a way to disable this covertly running program that is ruining my computer.

I know for a FACT that zonealarm is blocking specific programs, not port ranges. I have a ventrilo server up and running (which was "approved" by zonealarm while it was installed) on a certain port. IT works fine. I took that port range, and tried using it for Quake...no dice. So, it's not blocking the ports, it's blocking the program.

Barring a reformat, something which I will probably do by tomorrow if the problem isn't fixed, how else can I fix this in its entirety?
