zone alarm removal

some time ago i had Zonealarm installed on my machine, p4 512 memory win98, and removed it because it caused more trouble than it solved.
lately, i have a problem in that when i use my search engine, google through ie5, it works okay at first but soon bogs down. if i go to other programs first, ie email, or agent, or msn messenger, i can't seem to get my search engine to come up.

what happens is that i get notice about proxy servers and finally it kicks to a zonealarm page that says zonealarm has detected a problem and is preventing access.

i have searched my directories and removed any trace of zonealarm. I have searched all the dll librarys, the exe files, the inf files and still the problem exists.

i went to regedit and searched and removed all traces of zonealarm, zone labs, etc and still the problem exists.

how do i get rid of this.

Try posting in Technical Support, you'll probably get a better response there as this isn't an OS question...

are you sure it isn't some kind of malware on your computer rather than a remnant of zonealarm?
