Zone Alarm and SetiQ??

JustStarting

I installed Zone alarm and now my machines cannot access the Q. I have program control set to allow access to setiQ, setidriver and seti@home3.03..... What else do I need to do. My satellite goes red when it completes a WU, cause permission is obviously denied somehow. There are entries in the ZA log denying access to these programs, when I have set them to be allowed. Why?? TIA.

Which computer turns red? the one that is running the queue, or network computers.
In the case of network computers you need to go into the advanced options and tell it what IP addresses not to block. I dont have it on this comptuer so I cant give you more detailed directions.

On the SETIQ PC,
In ZoneAlarm, go to the Firewall section, then the Zones tab. You can then add a Host/Site, IP Address, IP Range (since my router does DHCP for a certain range, I use this one), or SUBNET.

I had already added both computers in my "Zones" tab. The problem was with the machine running the Q. I switched it from "Trusted Zone" to "Internet Zone", and all is fine now. Thanks- I knew it would be simple!

Isn't the router an effective firewall. Why do you also use ZA? Am I missing something?

I sorta "ditto" on that one too. I used to run ZA...but never got another hit after I installed my router. I guess if one of the kids were to "catch" a virus on an internal PC, ZA may keep it from infecting others in the network. dunno...😕

I just have a cheapo Linksys router, can't do a lot of port blocking.

With kids and a non-PC literate wife, who knows what they might install or execute. So if theirs gets infected, I stand a good chance of not getting other PCs on the network infected. 🙂

Call me paranoid, but I like the added protection. 🙂

When I have time, I may run some port scans with and without ZA to see if there is a big difference.

Same here on the wife and kids. You think you're paranoid?? I've got a D-Link DI-704P router, Norton Utilities 2003 and ZA running!! I HATE reformatting a hdd, installing all my programs and getting things just the way I like them. If ONE of these stops some hacker (or unknowing family member), from hosing up my work, then I'm happy. Everything seems to run along smooth with no apparent conflicts, and I've still got plenty of free memory (usually around 384mb free) for tasks/applications. To each his own.
