Only in America can we invent such delicious, sweet and sugary things filled with essential nutrients!

Ummm, pastries were not invented in America, but I see your point with adding nutrients to something that was already invented.

REAL pastries may not have been, but can you really consider Pop Tarts a "pastry" per se? I mean, just because it says that on the box... they had to call them SOMETHING.

I wasn't aware dried tasteless white paste or freeze dried cardboard contained nutrients. Thanks for the heads up OP.

To be honest, yeah, I do consider Pop-Tarts pastries, but then again, I have been known to hate America...

You know cereal has fortifications too right?

I would hope that anyone could see how easy it was to inject chemicals into something you eat, and give it a fancy name to make it feel healthy. I mean, I have little faith in humanity as it is, especially as far as English speaking folk go. However, to misconstrue the meaning of "fortified" just seems silly.
