According to Google trends, Zombie has been fading since its peak in 2012.

Good. Zombies are one of the stupidest concepts ever.

Hell, next thing...people will start making movies/TV shows about space travel or even space aliens...how ludicrous.

I would have throught it would have topped off around 2003-2006 when Zombie Survival guide and World War Z were published.

Did anyone see Army of the Dead? I made it 20 min in before turning it off which I think was actually an accomplishment.

It was better than I expected. Still ultimately a masturbatorial experience for the writer/director, but I've enjoyed worse movies.

Gave us a convenient excuse to practice killing our fellow humans, while it lasted. All under the guise of zombie prep. Not a good phase culturally.

This is how I felt. Go in expecting stupidity. I liked the zombie concept a bit more than other movies. The only thing close was I am Legend.

The first season of The Walking Dead didn't even start until 2010...
Was that little known TV show as popular as the books "Zombie survival guide" & "World War Z" though?
(ok ok, maybe not "little known", but, for me, it was entirely forgettable)

I think it's safe to say it was much more popular. It was more popular than the source comic books even, I think. I read a few dozen of the comics, but didn't watch the show at all.

World War Z was such a good book and then the movie was so meh. I naively went into the movie thinking it would be good. It was ok.

Im not usually a "the book was good the movie was bad" type, but, yes, World War Z the movie was like a 5/10. Had very little to do with the book.
I loved "The Running Man" movie, and "2001 a Space Odyssey" movie as a couple of examples of movies that can be as good as the book when they are done right.

Basically yes, go in expecting stupidity, expectations met and slightly exceeded. Btw I still say the ones in I Am Legend were vampires. What zombies can't go out in daylight?

Also, Ready Player One the book was pretty campy but fun. The movie was shite.
That one wasn't bad imo, if only due to the absolute orgy of actually interesting fan service. It was like someone was writing a love letter to my life.

I couldn't handle the way it was shot without even getting into the plot or writing. Outside of the pure CG scenes everything was done with some sort of bizarre camera effect where everything was extremely blurry except the object in focus.

That's called depth of field and it's normal in everything except CGI. It's becoming more normal in CGI though.
Toy Story 1 (which actually had some DOF, just limited):
