Zombieland Finds Its Emma Stone Replacement
Maiara Walsh (Desperate Housewives, Switched at Birth) has been cast in the Emma Stone role in Amazon's Zombieland TV pilot.
.... what?!

First, I had not heard of this before. Worse I learn of it via announcement of a sacrilege of re-casting the same characters from the movie. As if you could replace the cute and adorable Emma Stone.

Well, the movie was first pitched as a T.V. show.

However, I'd rather see a movie sequel. It might be that they feel a T.V. continuation of the movie or redoing the movie as a t.v. program is better than making a movie sequel.

You cant replace any of those characters, they worked so well.

Especially Tallahhassee (Woody Harleson), and emma stone (whatever she was)

None of the original actors are going to do a TV show, that's usually like taking a step backwards in the industry so I don't see any issues with Maiara Walsh.

If you can't get the original actors, write new characters.

Totally breaks everything related to continuity.

Major parts of the movie were filmed in my home town. I wonder if the show will be filmed here?

Also, The Walking Dead is filmed here and one of the actresses lives in my apartment complex (plays the character "Carol")

I agree. They don't have to have the same characters. It would probably work better to start the TV show earlier than where the movie left off.

Hopefully its better than the Walking Dead. Couldn't be too much worse could it? Oh god, now I'm worried its going to be Big Bang Theory but with zombies.

I feel like it should be new characters though. Original cast is so irreplaceable.

Who would want (in their right mind) to see a Zombieland-themed TV show based on the movie?

This is a bad business decision.

On the other hand if it succeeds it shows just how low our society has sunk and how desperate we are for "entertainment".

:(

Yes, the actors are not as good as the movie, but the show was enjoyable. Hope they make into a series.

Wish I could, but I just can't agree with this. :\ I talked about it a bit in my thread on Amazon posting pilots for their test series, but the show just isn't good. The biggest problem is that when you're essentially the sequel to a good movie, then you've got some big shoes to fill. Now, I see nothing wrong with replacing the actors as long as the new ones fit the roles, and they do. The problem is that the show radically altered the roles of the characters. They pretty much took each character, removed any of their other personality quirks, and accentuated the one thing that sort of defined them. For example, Tallahassee in the show is a flippin' moron. I believe I described his intelligence as "the zombies are smarter than him." The Tallahassee in the movie was not like that. Sure, he may not have been the smartest of the bunch, but his major quirk wasn't his intelligence but rather his one-track mind. With Columbus, they took the idea that he's a socially-inept shut-in and essentially made him even worse. The whole point of the movie is that he fought some of his fears and got the girl.

Although, you may say, "You're being too picky!" Not really. Even if I ignore the way they bastardized the characters, the show just isn't funny. At least based on the pilot, I wouldn't watch it, and I watch Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory! Now, if that doesn't say something, I don't know what does. :p I like a good comedy as much as the next guy, and I also enjoy some good crude humor. However, most shows and movies fail at executing crude humor well because they try too hard. The humor in this show is about one step away from "Ow! My Balls!" from Idiocracy.

I'm going to echo Aikouka. They've taken the characters, eliminated all but their most basic traits and then greatly exaggerated them. The little girl is the only one I could stand and she has maybe two minutes of screen time to herself.

This should have been a reboot. It could have started with Tallahassee making his way through the world eventually meeting Colmbus and basically recreating the events of the movie over the course of a season or two. I could probably have accepted that. But the way these characters act, talk and think is so unlike the movie that its not believable as a sequel.

And that guy doesn't seem to be 1/10th of the badass Harrelson was.

Yeah, its a shame they didnt somehow get woody harrelson; he made that movie.

The characters are definitely way suckier than original, but based on the pilot, i would still probably watch it. Something about that new emma stone is oddly hot.

Cause you're not a pedo and the other two are male. You're simply going for the only choice. :hmm:
