Hello,
A friend of mine recently discovered in his Google Chrome history that his computer has been used to access porn websites.
From the usage pattern, we discovered that he was the only one that could have physically access to the computer during those times.
While it is still possible it's him, he was genuinely surprised when we discovered that; all of the sites were in English (a language he is not good in), and since it's from the school wifi network, access to those kind of websites are forbidden, so the use of a proxy is required (I highly doubt he knows how to use one).
All in all, it seems quite likely this is remotely done; and I've thought of a zombie computer part of a botnet, or a similarly compromised computer.
A malware scan by MSE yielded nothing though.
But I'm a newbie in security, so I have absolutely no idea how it works.
Is it possible to browse the web remotely while my friend is doing it physically?
Would he see anything?
Can this be done while the computer (a laptop) is seemingly shut down?
Any idea of what it might be, and what can be done?
He would rather not reinstall windows if it can be avoided, but he is ready to do it in last resort.
Thanks in advance,
Ormurin.
