I saw this movie over the weekend and thought it was excellent. I went into it not knowing anything about the real California killings and had no idea it was based on the book by Graysmith, so I didn't know what to expect or how it was going to end. And even though it was a longish movie (~3 hours) it does an excellent job of grabbing your attention throughout, so it doesn't drag an anchor as it goes on.
The greatest aspect of the movie though is how they portray the police and newspaper publishers. Since the killings happened in several different jurisdictions there's so much red tape and legal proceedings involved with information/evidence gathering, but the film makers pulled it off quite nicely in telling the story. The acting is really top notch in this department though, the cops especially do a wonderful job in showing just how tough crime investigation can be.
You probably won't find much of Fincher's usual impressive camera tricks and style, but it definitely has that dark feeling of one of this movies. Anyone who is into crime dramas or stuff like Se7en should check this one out, I consider it another bullseye by the great director.
