I've got a new (to me) E6300 (lapped) & i'm mating it w/a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I've got both of these compounds here lying around and & don't know which to use for this setup.
Comments?
Thanks.

I like the Zalman. Very easy to apply a very thin coating on the heat spreader. There should not be any difference in performance if you have two flat/smooth mating surfaces.

I don't know about the ZM-STG1, but the AS Ceramique is an excellent non-conductive compound. Here it is compared to 6 other compounds:

I also have experience with it(have few packs at home) and I can confirm that its really good. By changing the stock compound of my Asus Silent SQUARE CPU cooler with Arctic Ceramique, the temps went down for 2-4'C on load.

I have to admit that it is indeed easy to apply.

that is what I was thinking. Perhaps the stock stuff was put on too thick, didn't have good enough coverage or just remounting the HSF gave better contact with the CPU. 2-4C isn't much to compare on...10-15C on the other hand is.

The test procedure alone is subjected to a minimum deviation of +/- 1C. Some of these people know nothing about gathering and analyzing raw data. A difference of +/- 2C is noise.

A difference of +/- 2C is noise if it can't be replicated.

that being said, OP, if you have a lapped CPU IHS and (presumably) lapped HSF, I would go with the Ceramique.

They're both lapped, although I haven't checked them w/my machinist's square (or a razor blade).

I would side with the Ceramique, I've been using it for years with excellent performance.

little off topic but what kind of machinist square do you have? I have a little Starrett 6" Scale/Straight Edge I like to use at work, but the damn thing is so beat up now I need something else.
