and the serial number for the product is ADA3500BIBOX. However, they sent me a proc with the serial number ADA3500DIK4BI in the retail box.

Did they try to pull a fast one on me by swapping the chip with an oem and sticking it in a retail box for the hsf? I'm ready to call them and bit*h them out! I'm totally new to AMD and this is my first build so thanks for the advice up front.

I think the BOX is just for their inventory needs, the actual CPU part# won't include the BOX part. the BI is indeed the last part of the #.

Thanks, that's comforting. Is it true though that the retail version oc's better than the oem?

I do not know for certain about that.
I don't even ever recall hearing anything about that, so I am totally uncertain.

but I can say, I wouldn't think that would be possible.. They all come from the same place afterall. :p

3500 = modell
D = number of Pins (A=754 pins, D= 939 pins)
I = CPU Voltage (E=1,50Volt, I=1,4Volt)
K = max. Temperatur (I= 63°, P = 70°, K= 65°)
4 = Cache Size (3 = 256kb, 4 = 512kb, 5 = 1mb)
