ZipZoomFly Lies

late last year i ordered a new rig. its in my sig!

however, the first mobo was an asus p5n-e sli. i ordered almost everything from zipzoom, over a grand. which is not much for them, but a decent order.

my p5n gave me issues. i knew it said exchange for same item only, but i wanted to go to an intel chipset so i figured id call just to ask about getting an asus p5b-d instead. the cs rep not only said that would be ok, but that if i ordered a mobo the same or greater in price they would waive the restocking fee. i repeated this because i was impressed with that service.

i was told call back with your new order number so they can waive the fee.

so i order an asus p5b, i call back with order number, get a different rep (guy not girl) and i confirm that this is so the restock fee could be waived. he said yes and was very cheerful about it.

i get the credit 10 days later, minus 12 bucks for cables & Q-connect i forgot to return, which they emailed me about and i accpeted the 12 dollar reduction instead of shipping them back. but they also took out a 15% restocking fee.

i emailed them 5 days ago. and again today. i get an email back finally saying that their restocking fee is 25%! and that all i was told is that they would reduce it to 15%.

what a pack of horseshit.

if you goto their website return faq, http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Service/Return.jsp

there is no 25% number for restocking for anything.

/end rant

in the end i also had to return the p5b-d which had one of the common issues of not booting up after a short time. that was charged the correct 15% restocking fee - which, according to this cs rep, should be %25, since i called nobody to reduce it. now i have the dq6 and am perfectly content with it.

basically, zip zoom is straight up lying.

the first 4 rigs i built i went newegg. but then they opened a warehouse in my state so taxes are a killer.

this dq6 i got from newegg cause they had it in stock when i was returnin the p5b-d, but thats it from this rig.

if they dont resolve this, i will at least complain thru the proper channels.

ZZF sucks. you should believe the ratings at resellerratings. they are no lie. newegg beats them hands down, even if you pay another $10 extra from newegg

they used to be talked about as up there with newegg & mwave.

i placed all my other stuff in several different orders, and it all shipped the next day after ordering except one took 2 days, i was impressed with the service. not quite as fast as newegg was, but still good enough for me.

but its not so much that they overcharged me 20 bucks or so on restocking, it is the complete bullshit lies they replied with, after taking 5 days to do so.

I have been using ZZF since they were googlegear. I love them. Only ever had one issue and after one phonecall, it was sorted to my satisfaction. I have often called them, just to ask questions about their products or to see if they could get something for me. They have always been polite and helpful.

I've placed 3-4 orders with Googlegear/ZZF over the years and had no problems, but I've never needed to deal with customer support.

I've dealt with Newegg support twice (order lost by FedEx, RMA of a graphics card) and they were great both times.

I normally order from Newegg even if it costs a little more, since I know good customer support is there if I ever need it.

They also have the best item descriptions and most accurate real-time inventory listings, so I know what I'm getting and that it will really ship in a day or two not be backordered.

I  newegg.

it's a crapshoot with them. if you need customer service for anything, you're in for a reaming. if everything works like it's suppose to, they're great.

I don't like ZZF because of the website, it is insanely difficult to figure out!

I decided to order a Tripp Lite UPS from ZZF about a month ago. I added it to the cart and was going through the account creation process when, just BEFORE I had to enter my payment details .... SHAZAM! ... suddenly the price jumped about 29%!
Of course I bailed out and sent them a complaint. They mentioned something about a database refresh possibly, but it was enough to scare me off.

It doesn't sound like ZZF was out to lie to you; more like disorganization on their end. Why would a reputable company lie to get a few extra dollars, with the end result that they lose a customer forever, and they take the risk that this customer will rant on an internet board filled with their target demographic? Seems a very silly thing to do.

On a side note, it's always good to get the name of the person you talk to. I would personally call back and talk to a human about this.

if you get an actual live person on the phone and not an answering machine i'd be stunned. if you paid with CC you should file a chargeback. in fact, every single person who has a problem with them should file a chargeback, that way Visa/MC get sick of them and cancel their merchant account

ewiz, clubit, and especially provantage are all very good places to shop. And outpost.com gets an honorable mention.

I've never had a single problem with ZZF. They've been awesome and I've built probably 5-6 computers with parts from there.

One time I had a 24x Lite-On burner that started having some problems. I called them up and they allowed me to return it....not only that, they sent me a 48x Burner.

I was 6 months outside of the one year warranty. Can't beat that.

I avoid them like a plague. I ordered some things that said IN STOCK on the site. Before I put in the order, I called to double check and the items were actually not in stock with no in stock date available. I would not even consider them, even if they offered 75% off and free ship. Forget it!!!

I used to like them a lot but they've gone down hill lately and they do have a bad habit of saying an item is in stock when it really isn't. That's piss poor service if you ask me.

I agree. The layout sucks.

I second that notion. Finding what you want is way too tough and you can forget about "window shopping" on their site. That layout is one of their biggest drawbacks and I bet it drives away a ton of business.

I used Newegg for my first computer which was before I found out about ZipZoomFly. Now I always buy my stuff through ZipZoomFly since its cheaper and includes free FedEx shipping on nearly every item. I use newegg for my parts selection and research as it is easy to find things on newegg, but then place my final order with ZipZoomFly. The only thing I would change about ZipZoomFly is the layout. It is very painful to use.

They suck-I tried them for a month, ordered about $2400 worth of parts and they just don't process quickly-and their site is horrible.
