First day in the chair in front of XP Pro. I installed a zipped driver file, and the OS opened and installed it fine. Is there a built in zip utility in this OS? Or, have I had too, too many margaritas?

Well, that's pretty cool. I guess there's no need to download and install WinZip anymore.

It's funny that you should mention that. AFAIK the zip utility included with the OS is a stripped down version of WinZip.

A useful bit of information off TweakXP...

Disable zip folders

Are the ZIP folders too slow for you? Disable it by unregistering the file zipfldr.dll.

regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

I did this and stuck with my freeware UltimateZip (it can read way more file types than the one built into Windows XP).

I hate the way zip folders worked, so I still kept WinZip around. zip folders are useful when I first install the OS though. I usualy forget to install WinZip and then go and download drivers :) Now I don't need to grumble about it and then go get WinZip as well :)
