Zip Drive Click Death

A couple of years ago, this was a huge problem. Iomega tech support would ask that the phone be held close to the drive while it was making the noise, and then would transfer me to the RMA department, where the drive was replaced, no questions asked, although they did not make it commonly known that they would do this. It was a serious quality issue, and Iomega typically replaced the drive, in warranty or not. Demagnetized disks... what a load of cr@p!

On a side note: I am completely not impressed with the quality of the Iomega Zip drives. I have had the "clicking" problem. A couple of days ago my brand new ZIP 250 died.... and by the looks of it the built was "crap"

Yeah that's a very common problem with Zip drives. I was wondering though, is this the same case with USB zip drives? I've noticed the USB ones are in a fairly sturdy housing, much more so than internals or the parrallel port models.

Be careful not to declare a bad drive when the disk is at fault. I have 3 zip drives, one known click diseased... take a disk that was messed up with the bad drive and put it in the good drives and they all click! If you have nothing but used disks, try a new one before you declare your drive bad.
