Zip Codes less than 5 digits?

Saw this on the store locator for KMart...

(Add zeros if zip is less than 5. Ex:00123)

Ehhh? I used to live in 07480, i didn't write nor did i ever see anyone ever write 7480 as their zip....

Do people actually do that?

They should had just made their locator app add on the leading zeros if they were missing.

I didn't even realize they had zipcodes that started with a zero. Never paid attention to it I guess. Glad I don't work at a Post Office.

in Australia all Post Codes(zip for the yanks)are 4 digit, the town I live in is 2590

Maybe some Excel jockey wrote that thinking some zip codes really have less than 5 digits.

I was at a K-Mart behind a Canadian guy, and they have 3 letters and 3 numbers in their postal codes, but the input screen only takes 5 numbers. Figure that one out.

Was just about to mention that. We ship most of our products to Qantas in Lara, 3212.

yes. countless number of time. I have a part time job with a research institute that developes and improves the software USPS uses to scan addresses. being say this, I know alot about zipcodes. :p
