Hello. I bought this drive because I need it for my CAD class. Here's the scoop. If I try to turn on the computer with the drive plugged into a USB port, the O/S will not boot. The computer posts fine, everything is good until it gets to the part where it should be the WinXP loading screen... but it's just blank. Help Please!

Also, if unplug the drive, the computer thinks a second... then just continues loading windows like nothing happened.

Try plugging it into a different usb port. Is it the only USB device you have?

I tried putting the drive into a different port. By the way, the mobo is an EPoX 8rda+. Yes I have a few USB devices... I have a web cam, a joystick, and a scanner. I hope it's not a problem with the drive cause I hate dealing with RMAs ^^

Try this: press the ESC key when the 8RDA+ begins its POST, and it'll show you a list of devices to boot from. Pick your HDD and see if it works. If it does, perhaps your system's currently set with boot-from-USB as an option or something? Just a thought.

The boot manager picks up the zip drive fine... but even still after telling it to boot off the HD, I still have the same problem :-(

Will the system recognize the Zip drive ok if you boot to Windows and then plug the drive in?

You could also consider an internal ATA Zip250. I got a black one from Directron for $42, which is a very good price.

Yes, when I plug it in after the computer has booted up, all is well. I would get an internal but i don't for two reasons.

1.) I don't feel like taking computer apart.
2.) Both 3.5 slots are filled. (Floppy/Flash Reader)

Thank you for all your help Mech. The driver update did not work. I have emailed Iomega.

I E-mailed Iomega and they said it's a common problem if USB Legacy Support is enabled in the bios. So I searched through my bios and the manual and it says nothing about USB Legacy support. Anyone know if its possible to do so on the EPoX 8rda+? Thanks :D

I just grabbed the manual to your board. It's strange there is no Legacy USB setting as most newer boards have that. The closest I could find is on page 44-46 of your manual and make sure USB Keyboard and Mouse support is off. Not sure if that will help but those are the only USB settings in the bios!!

Good luck!

How about at the first bios screen try turning off BOOT OTHER DEVICES and make sure the Zip 250 is not set up as the 1st - 3rd boot devices. See if that works. I think it's trying to boot from the Zip 250 and hanging there at that point.
