Zip 250 Owners - Long Format for Zip 100 Disks?

Hey all,

I was wondering, I recently upgraded my internal Zip 100 Drive to a Zip 250 Drive. However, now, I am no longer allowed the option to "Long Format" any Zip 100 Disks. "Long Format" is only a selectable option for Zip 250 Disks.

Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a way to correct this. I'm running Iomega Zip Driver 2.8 under Win2K SP2.

Thanks for any input

This is normal behavior; see Iomega's documentation on this.

Even Iomega recommends keeping the use of Zip100 disks to a minimum. I agree, although I'm very disappointed the backwards compatibility isn't better. One thing I find especially annoying on my USB 250 (don't know if the problem also occurs in Atapi) -- your computer screen will make it look like a copy operation on a Zip 100 is finished, but in reality it has a long way to go. You have to check the flashing lights on the Zip drive to be sure. I used to get system lockups or have other problems when I would try to eject a disk or perform other operations, until I realized that a previous write operation was not finished.

Hey rw120555

Thanks a million for the info. I feel a little stupid now since it was all right there in the Iomega Documentation - I should have read it more carefully.

Hmm... I thought Iomega advertized these drives as "Fully Compatible" with Zip100, maybe they should change that to "Mostly Compatible".

Thanks again,

You're welcome Obispo21. I actually bought a separate Zip100 USB drive when I was exchanging zip100 disks a lot with others. They're fairly cheap now. Still, you sort of hate to reward Iomega for not doing a better job with the Zip250. Of course, if I could trade in all my old zip drives for CDRW equipment now, I probably would.
