Just read an article on this Here. I had heard that they were in trouble but I didn't know how bad? What will happen to PC Magazine, Gamespot, EGM and CGM?

Most likely they will all be spun off. At least that would make the most sense.

I guess they were bitten by the "Web" monster. People have turned to the Internet for their information. PC Magazine is usually several months behind in the information it publishes because of the time needed to prepare the articles for print. I think people are not interested in purchasing and reading material that is 3 months old. The article stated that PC Magazine had a subscriber base of 1.23 million subscribers. I wonder what the count was 7 or 8 years ago before the Web blossomed? I would imagine that the number would have been higher. I used to enjoy PC Magazine 8 years ago when I was a subscriber. However, the "old news" that they printed during recent times along with the suspicion that they would rate a vendor's product according to how much advertising the vendor had purchased from them has left a sour taste in my mouth. It's actually been about a year and half since I purchased a single issue of PC Magazine from the shelf at a newsstand. At the time, I couldn't believe how badly the publication had gone downhill.

It really looks like the families that owned the Ziff-Davis publications sold off their ownership just in time - which occurred 5 or 6 years back.

They are filing for 11, not liquidation. Things will probably go on like they have. They have a debt load that's 4x their yearly revenue. They fubared somewhere and someone is gonna have to figure out how to get it down. IIRC, of their revene like 33% goes to pay for interest. Not good.

Damn. There go all my free magazines. :-(

What kind of business does Ziff-Davis do with Intel? Don't they just provide them with ad space?

I'd assume the magazines will stick around seeing as how they are some of the best tangible PC and gaming news sources. I thought I heard like 2 years ago that ZDnet was going down but they are still around. I think they might have gotten bought out by Cnet.

I'm not under the secrecy agreement that I signed when I worked there anymore, but I can't remember what all Intel did with them. It was WAY more than advertisement space. Ziff Davis owns FRICKIN EVERYTHING it seemed like. I worked in purchasing. In fact, the purchasing department was the best out of all the purchasing departments in Intel. :D Some admin came into one of our weekly meetings and proposed that we be split up and sent to different departments in the U.S. and the rest of the world to train other purchasing departments. :Q All but one of us turned them down. There was no way in hell I was going to let them send me in particular to Egypt!

Anyway, I worked a lot with Ziff Davis and also with Iron Mountain, but I dunno if the two are related. I heard that the two had close ties, but I can't hardly remember anything from so long ago. If Ziff Davis goes under, I hope Iron Mountain doesn't go under with them... Intel stores a majority, if not all, of it's sensative documents with them.
