A large increase in the performance of the new microarchitecture.
ZX-A / ZX-C / KX-5000 / KX-6000 = small cores
KX-7000 = BIG cores

Major Edit 1: This is KH-40000 platform, so it fits the topic. Potentially KX-7000 will be somewhere. *shrug*

It is weirdly formatted...
CPU Die => 2+ GHz / 16C
Dual-die and two socket => Octo-channel and 128 PCIe 3.0 lanes.
Which will be the the full 64-core option.

Elbrus is pretty much DOA. A VLIW architecture emulating x86 instruction encoding ? Sounds all too familiar to the Transmeta which ended up in failure ...

There's a very good reason why the Chinese state and Zhaoxin invested in designing native x86 implementations instead of fooling around binary translation since the industry is converging towards x86. By designing native x86 implementations, Zhaoxin hopes to free themselves and the rest of China under the mercy of either AMD or Intel so that they can attract a higher bargaining power among software developers to start paying attention to their hardware ...

Sooner or later the Russian state will have to comeback to sanity and start designing native x86 CPUs ...

As the classic said "We should see this moment as an opportunity to shift our focus as an industry from benchmarks to the benefits and impacts of the technology we create,"

Russia is pushing Elbrus with their own homebrew OS to avoid all foreign hardware. It's slow and bad (even when not emulating x86), but they can be assured that it has not been compromised by foreign intelligence assets at the hardware design level. It also enables their homegrown intelligence agencies to implant whatever monitoring technology they want into the hardware and/or software to monitor those Russian citizens that wind up using their platform.

Elbrus systems aren't competition for anyone. Not even Zhaoxin.

It's still fabbed abroad at TSMC, so there's still some risk that there could be shenanigans from a foreign power.

It doesnt have i7 920 in database but comparing with i7 2600k shows that my good old i7 920 also performed better than a KX-6780A.

i7 920 is a 45nm 4 cores/8 threads cpu from 2008. It's a 12 years old cpu.

There's no benefits and (good) impacts when we're talking about a 14~15 years regression in technology.

I do some rendering in my Ryzen 2600X. Rendering is heavy multithread workload.

Ryzen 2600X is way faster than Xeon X5675 (also 6 cores) I had before.
Xeon X5675 already was a lot faster than i7 920 in multithread.


I dont want to criticize those working in these cpu's but considering my average price pc from 11-12 years ago was faster than what they got right now.. it's not good.

The people that are looking at these are most likely Chinese. This forum is not the best place to push these if thats your agenda. Nobody here wants a processor that is 15 years old as far as its performance.

You are comparing bottom of the barrel stuff that no one would use anymore. 2M/4T vs 8C/8T. and it still gets its ass handed to it in single threaded work. I don't see why you are so excited about this CPU.

How about a bottom of the barrel CPU that just came out vs Zahoxin that also just came out recently? Half the cores and it still wins in a bloodbath.

I could spend all day on this guy, and he still would not get it.. The bleedinh edge 2006 processors (conroe) I bet would beat his. If a 920 can beat it, I am sure others older will. I am not even going to spend the time to look it up. He will not listen to me.

Edit: above I saw where a 920 beats it. This processor can be had with "buy it now" for $12 on ebay. Rgardless of anything else, nobody here cares about a processor that gets beat by a $12 CPU

They have to exchange hundreds of thousands of C2Ds and C2Qs over etc. in government and self-government and you are talking about "buy it now" for $ 12 on ebay ".

So, it's a turd sandwich? A turd sandwich can come from China, or anywhere else. Doesn't change the fact that it totally sucks. If they could get anywhere near close, maybe it would be more interesting.

I think the thought is that it does not have NSA backdoors. This doesn't mean the NSA can't find vulnerabilities.

It's a useable product if the software you rely on is well written for multithread. So as browsing and email machine it seems perfectly fine. The 8 cores make up for a very weak per core ability. Looking at scores, I'd say the cores are somewhere in the range of 50% to 70% the ST performance of an XV core. I would say cores similar to acorn performance, so I'm wondering if this gen ZX is very limited in out-of-order execution.

https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2295?vs=2597 There are a few MT categories where the ZX exceeds the XV quad, but you really have to go looking for the wins.

If they are in-order cores that could give them the advantage of low spectre vulnerability. Maybe the focus is on that? Or, probably it's just a practice design early gen product.
