I sold this DSL modem to this guy because I was getting a better one with built-in router features.

So, when he got the item, he complained that it didn't come with a driver CD. Duh! You're supposed to get it from your DSL provider (so all the region-specicfic stuff -VPI, VCI, PPPoE/A, are correct). Even the item description only said "software available on the Web". Anyways, he kept telling me he wanted MY cd that I will have to continue to use and is not compatiable with his DSL anyways.

I think that person is so stupid that he thinks he could use my CD to get DSL for free under my account, since he wants MY CD so badly. Then again, I hope no one is THAT stupid, lol.

This is the last e-mail he sent:

Actually the eaybay#1210948234 it's for me. My friend Chris brought
for me.
Once when I opend the item I see the instruction see need a CD. I was
mad.
How can you sell a item without a CD. I have been buying a lot of
computer
items from eb-ay never happen before. Doesn't mean you didn't indicate
the
word you don't have to send the. Espically, all people know buying
from
E-bay item by trust people each other. Because I trust you then got
your
item from you. Otherwise I could get any item from store it
automatically
come with a CD. You have use the CD, that is really your excuese.
That is
mean you are cheating on my friend. People won't trust you anymore.
Of
course I have been mad from you and my friend too. How can buy a item
from a
stupid person I told my friend like that. You told Chris say download
the
DSL, but I don't have that kind of enegy to do and I pay for everything
and
that is item is old too I should get what I get, otherwise you know
what
will happen to you...That is my notice...Not because I am
mean..Example,
what happen if you are the person recieve the item from someone else
once
you opened the item ready to do, then the cd is missing. Would you be
happy
about that? of course not right? We are talks about human nature here.
Please give a response.....thanks..

Bad grammer, threats, incoherent sentences, "cheating " because I did not include a CD when the item description clearly stated that "software updates via Web site". I wonder what "threat" he is talking about, since I have both his home and work address and he currently has a "0" rating on e-Bay.

I finally said that I will burn a CD if he tells me his DSL ISP. If not, he can return the item.

I should reject bids from newbies in the future

Burn him a disc, drop it in a padded envelope, send it as cheap as you can, & forget about him.

man, over the last two years and several hundred auctions I have about 4 dozen of stories similiar to this.

the most recent was the other day I sold a complete system (minus the operating system)

in the ad description it clearly states "No monitor or Operating system is included with this system" Then explains their option for purchasing an OS w/ the system, having me install it etc

So anyways... I email him saying "blah blah blah you win pay here" then I said #1 do you want the 56k modem or the 10/100 NIC. #2 did you want to have me install Win98 for an additional 70 dollars"

He said "No, I know how to install windows and dont need to pay someone 70 dollars to do it"

At first I didnt catch it but then realized that this poor guy thinks he's getting an OS and I emailed him back saying "Ok I just wanted to make sure you knew it didnt come with one"

Then he emails me back "well a computer cant work w/ out windows 98...what am I supposed to do with this system?!?!" "How can you test it w/ out an operating system" etc

So I emailed him back and explained and asked him to go back and read both the auction description and policies on my website. He did and replied with just "Ok thats fine" heh

Something tells me either this guy flunked 2nd grade grammar, or (What I believe) he used a translator to convert his dialect into English, because even my Aunt's seven year old looked at that e-mail and said "Huh? I don't understand that, or that, or that. That guy is dumb." :D

i though I would never encounter any of these ppl before. i mean, if you want to get someone to do something, you should at least make sure that your request is undertandable, right?

It's amazing how ignorant some ppl are (about computers). I guess some people just aren't in tune with electronics! ;) Personally, I know some people who didn't even know how to use e-mail! I'm sure the rest of the ignorant world will come to... it's a slow process, but we're getting there.

Go out and buy the cheapest, least reliable CD-R you can find when you burn the disc for him. With any luck his CD-ROM won't be able to read the disc. Alternately you can burn yourself a high quality copy and send him the original disc after you have "treated" the original with 80 grit sandpaper. When he complains, blame it on shipping damage.
