2 years ago I built my rig with an Intel Q9550 and the above-mentioned HSF. The box is rather sparse on instructions, and even their website PDF has no pictures or much in the way of orientation instructions.
Recently I've noticed that my idle temps are in the 45-50C range, when most people online seem to be running around 30C instead. So I'm going to be re-applying the thermal paste ... I assume I used a bit too much in the initial build.
But something else came up in that all the images I find on Google show the fan oriented towards the RAM, while I have mine on the side of the rear case/exhaust fan. From what I can tell, the fan pulls air off the heatsink -- so why does everyone else orient theirs to blow the hot air towards the front of the case over the RAM?
Am I just not understanding something here? Any insights are appreciated.
