hello, been frequenting the forums for a while but a computer problem is what got me to finally set up an account

i seem to have a bit of an odd problem and ill walk through the steps of what happened including my train of thought

1) come home one day and oddly enough, as much as i press the power button...nothing happens...no beeps...no power whatsoever

2) i start rummaging through my parts with the initial belief my power supply has gone out, but the motherboard is powered and when i pulled out my video card, full power was given. Also when i unplugged the power for long enough for the mobo light to turn off, when i plugged in and hit power, the fans rotated once and stopped.

3) i now believe my video card could be causing inexplicable problems so i plug in a perfectly fine card and the same problem is repeated.

4) i now believe the mobo might be failing so i switch in a perfectly good mobo (yes i have many parts lying around) and try to start up. the fans rotate once and then nothing.

5) stumped, i plug in the video card again with the same results...nothing...take it out...the computer now boots up fine though with no video.

6) confused, i post here asking for help.

From what i can tell, it seems that my mobo is not the problem, and even with a perfectly fine video card i cant get any kind of startup. also, there are absolutely no beeps and i have already checked RAM and the other parts except for processor. Power is being given, as seem by the computer starting up, though when a video card is in, nothing happens...whether or not the video card works. possibly the proc?

If you can do anything to help, i would appreciate greatly. hopefully im just being an absolute fool about my problem. thanks for reading this

Have you made any changes to your computer recently? It almost sounds like a lack of power issue, that is when you plug in your video card there isn't enough power left to adequately start your system. The problem is, that would only make sense if you had just added another hard drive or something else that has overloaded your power supply. Other than that, the only thing that makes sense is that the video card or AGP slot in the motherboard has gone south. Have you got a spare video card to try?

spare video card has already been tried along with a spare mobo, but thanks for the advice.
the psu problem you describe does sound plausible though. i may not have added anything lately but thats about the only thing that would make sense bout now. if i have the opportunity i will try another power supply out of desperation
